We remain committed to providing a safe and healthy preschool for your and your family. Find our current COVID-19 protocols below.

covid-19 Protocols

The health of our students/staff is a combined responsibility of the school and families.  The preschool director will notify all families if a case of COVID is directly connected to a classroom and report the action taken. Face masks are optional during low or medium transmission in the community. If the transmission rate returns to high, then masking (disposable, K95 masks are recommended) will be required indoors by staff, families, and children, as best possible. Masks are always optional in the outdoor classroom. You are required to notify the school immediately if any member of your immediate family/household has COVID-19 or any other reportable communicable disease especially if the child was in school the day they are tested or have symptoms.

A COVID positive student/staff member may return to school after five full days have passed from the first date of symptom onset or the date of their positive test, if asymptomatic. Symptoms must be resolving, not worsening, before they may return to the facility. If symptoms improve but then return, the date resets to day zero. If a student/staff member continues to have a fever, or if other symptoms have not improved after five days of isolation, the student/staff member should wait to end isolation until fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and symptoms of illness have improved. Returning to school on Day 6, the student/staff member must wear a mask around others. Students and staff may remove their masks to eat/drink if they are at least 6 feet from others. If they are unable to wear a mask effectively, they must continue to isolate themselves at home until the end of Day 10.

If a student/staff member has been exposed to COVID through a close contact, Virginia Department of Health (VDH) no longer recommends quarantine or pausing attendance, unless symptoms are present. UCPP asks that you monitor symptoms for ten days, consider wearing a mask indoors per CDC guidance, and test 6 days after exposure. If the child is unvaccinated, wearing a mask is recommended until Day 10. Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) urges emphasis on screening and exclusion of ill staff and children. Do not come to school with any symptoms of respiratory illness. Contact the office for any questions or concerns.
